Female Pattern Baldness in Women

Monday, June 9th, 2008

The majority of hair loss problems are associated with men because it predominantly affects them. Women are not excluded from experiencing premature female hair loss and experts reveal that 1 in 4 women will suffer from it at some stage in their life.

Many women with this condition go unnoticed because they are more adept at concealing it. Hair loss in women is generally spread evenly over the head while in men it appears to be mostly concentrated over the crown.

Causes of premature hair loss in women differ significantly compared to men. Three common reasons for hair loss in women have been identified and some are correctable.

Female pattern baldness in women occurs for similar reasons as in men - there is a body reaction to male hormones, in particular testosterone conversion to DHT. Female pattern baldness hair loss may begin later than in men as women’s bodies are still affected by estrogen.

Good Nutrition Is The Secret

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Good nutrition is the secret to beautiful hair, nails and skin and depends upon the foods we consume. In addition, our bodies require sufficient rest and sleep. A diet high in amino acids, essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins is necessary for proper nutrition and research shows that diets high in animal fats impact negatively on development and growth of hair, nails and skin. These saturated fats stimulate the body’s sebaceous glands to exude extra oils which increases oil in the hair, clog pores and attaches dirt.

Results indicated that body dissatisfaction in girls resulted from appearance comparison, conversations with friends and body mass while boys internalized theirs via comparisons of themselves to muscular ideals. These findings appeared in 2004 in the journal of Developmental Psychology.
